  1. People wanting to fix or manage pain & injury:

Our highly trained therapists have advanced expertise in biomechanics and anatomy, enabling them to accurately assess your condition, symptoms, and history. They then tailor a precise manual therapy treatment designed to enhance fluid flow, relax the nervous system, and reduce muscle tension. This plan includes massage therapy and can incorporate other methods like cupping, needling, and stretch/exercise coaching at your preference.

From stubborn TMJ pain and hard-to-fix lower back issues to tendonitis, post-surgery rehab, or tight, heavy-feeling legs—most clients say they wish they’d found us sooner. When muscle/fascia tension and nervous system stress are the root cause (as they often are), we get results where others don’t.

3. Athletes and other individuals managing high workloads:

Have you ever heard of a top athlete that doesn’t get regular sports massage therapy? Neither have we.

We are the massage therapists for The Highlanders, Otago’s NPC rugby team, and many more of coastal and central Otago’s top athletes.

Our high workload clients report faster recovery, reduced injury frequency, improved athletic performance, and better sleep.

“I love visiting The Muscle Mechanics. Knowing I can go online and book a massage when I am back in town to fit around my training schedule really aids my recovery. There are always little niggles that I need to stay on top of, and the expert TMM team help me to get the most of my training and keep me on the cricket field.” - Suzie Bates (NZ White Ferns, Otago Sparks).

  1. ASSESSMENT

To begin your first appointment, we will spend 5-10 minutes assessing your preferences, symptom history, posture and movement to identify areas of tension and relative weakness in the soft tissues (muscle/ fascia).

2. INDIVIDUALLY TAILORED HANDS-ON MANUAL THERAPY

The majority of your session will consist of expertly applied hands-on techniques to rapidly relax hypertonic (clenched) muscles, increase fluid flow, improve fascia elasticity, and relax your nervous system.

This work is personalised to your needs and preferences, and will include stronger “deep tissue” or more gentle massage techniques.

Select therapists also offer a selection of specialised treatment methods including musculoskeletal therapy, myofacial release, dry-needling, red light therapy, rock tape, e-cupping, active release, or assisted stretching.

3. MOVEMENT COACHING

Your therapist may recommend specific stretches or exercises to help correct muscle imbalances, improve your movement, and build control. Not all therapists focus heavily on exercise coaching, so if your needs are better matched to someone else on our team, we’ll point you in the right direction to make sure you get the best support. We also have a network of top local health professionals that we can recommend to you.
